At Bonlee, we are committed to elevating every student academically, creatively, and personally. As we step into the spring season, a time of growth, renewal, and new beginnings, this week’s celebrations are a powerful reminder of what happens when our students are given opportunities to shine.

🎨 Art Success
Congrats to Norah Cox and Kyla Chips for placing in the NCASA Art Competition. We are proud of these Dragons!

🔬 Science Excellence
Madilyn Brown earned an Exemplary Award at the State Science Fair. An outstanding accomplishment!

🎓 AVID in Action
Our 8th graders visited Chatham Central High School and participated in AVID interviews, which helped build confidence for their next steps.

📚 Author Visit
Students in grades 3–5 enjoyed a visit from NC author Tate Godwin, inspiring our future readers and writers.

🌿 PTA Appreciation
A special thank you to our PTA for helping beautify our campus by planting 31 shrubs behind the school this Saturday. We appreciate your continued support!

📢 News Families Need to Know

🧠 Youth Mental Health & Substance Use – March 24

Chatham County Schools, in partnership with Chatham Drug Free, is hosting a series of three virtual community conversations. These informal sessions welcome parents, caregivers, local professionals and community members who have questions about mental health services and substance use. Several local service providers will be available via Zoom to answer questions and engage in conversation. Participants are welcome to drop in for a few minutes or stay for the entire discussion.

The first event will take place on Tuesday, March 24, from 6:00–7:00 PM via Zoom. Spanish interpretation services will be available. For more information, visit the Chatham Drug Free website or contact rob@chathamdrugfree.org.

SUN Bucks is Back

SUN Bucks, a partnership between the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, provides grocery benefits to eligible families with school-aged children during the summer months.

Some children automatically qualify, while others may need to apply. Please see the file linked below for eligibility information.

📚 Learning at Home Tip

Turn everyday moments into learning opportunities! Ask your child to share one thing they learned each day. It could be from reading, math, or even a conversation at school.

Simple questions like “What surprised you today?” or “What was challenging?” help build thinking, confidence, and communication skills. 💬✨

Testing

Beginning this school year, students who score Not Proficient on any or all of the End-of-Grade (EOG) Reading assessments will automatically be scheduled for a retest opportunity. This “second chance” is designed to give students another opportunity to demonstrate their learning and show growth after reflecting on their initial performance.

We believe this retesting opportunity provides a valuable second look, which allows students to build confidence, reinforce their understanding, and more accurately showcase what they know and can do.

If you prefer for your child not to participate in this retesting opportunity, please use the following link: Testing Letters to opt out. Paper copies are also located in the main office for your convenience. This opt-out letter is due April 10th to their homeroom teachers.

Happy last week before spring break!!

One final reminder that our Bonlee Dragon glow in the dark t-shirts are available for purchase. We extended the deadline through 12pm Friday 3/27! We are trying to make the deadline to have the shirts for Spring Fling.

Spring Fling: Let’s Glow will be on Friday, April 24. Details are still being finalized but we look forward to a good time with all! Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
