Lighting the way for our Dragons – Celebrations, news, and what’s coming next.

💫A Note from the Principal

Bonlee Families,

As we enter the final nine weeks of the school year, we are excited about the opportunities ahead for our students to grow and finish strong. This is a critical time where every day counts.

We encourage students to stay focused, give their best effort, and take pride in their progress. Consistent attendance is key during this time, as each day of instruction matters. Families, your support at home makes a powerful difference.

Together, we will continue to rise above and reach higher as we close out the school year. Let’s finish strong, Dragons! 🔥🐉

🌟 Celebrations

We have so much to celebrate at Bonlee!

👏 Claire Palmer was named the State Quill Champion – Informational Writing Winner, an outstanding accomplishment!

🏆 Congratulations to Kasey Maness, our Instructional Assistant of the Year, and Xiomara Erazo, our Bus Driver of the Year! We appreciate the impact you make on our students each day.

📚🎶🎨 We also celebrated Rachel Donnald for School Librarian Day, David Clark for Music in Schools Month, and Andrea Kirk for Youth Art Month. Thank you for inspiring creativity and learning across our school!

💡 Our 7th graders participated in an in-house field trip through the Coastal Credit Union Financial Reality Simulation, alongside Bennett School 7th graders, gaining real-world financial experience. Thank you to Mr. Triplett and Ms. Tally for coordinating this experience!

🎓 Career Day was a success before Spring Break, with about 15 presenters, including a paramedic, the Mayor of Siler City, a bridge engineer, an X-ray technician, an electrician, and a Walmart distribution professional, helping students explore future careers. Thank you to Ms. Ritter, our AVID team, and all who assisted in making this experience possible!

📢 News Families Need to Know

Kindergarten Registration

It is time to register for kindergarten! If you have a child or know of a child who will be 5 on or before August 31, 2026, please read about the registration process here:

Families with a student currently enrolled in Chatham County schools who wish to register a new student for Kindergarten in the 2026-2027 school year should use the Infinite Campus Parent Portal to do so. From the home screen on the Parent Portal, under the heading "Shortcuts," select Student Registration/Annual Review or select the "More" tab from the main menu, then select Student Registration/Annual Review. Follow the prompts to register your new student. If you do not have a Parent Portal account, please create one by following the directions on this webpage.

If you have a student enrolled in the Chatham County Schools Pre-K program, you do not need to complete a registration for Kindergarten. Families who do not currently have any children enrolled in Chatham County Schools should visit the Chatham County Schools website and use the “New Student Enrollment” link to find directions for completing registration for the 2026-2027 school year. (See below for a 2025-2026 school year registration.) Registrations must be completed in the appropriate school year for your student.

All new student registration for kindergarten is completed online.  Register using a home computer, your telephone, or by visiting your neighborhood school to use a computer available in the main office. Please contact Ms. Albright, Bonlee's data manager, if you have any questions.

Rising kindergarten families can learn more at our Kindergarten Orientation on May 21 at 6:00 p.m.  We are so excited to welcome the Class of 2039!🎉

SUN Bucks is Back

SUN Bucks, a partnership between the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, provides grocery benefits to eligible families with school-aged children during the summer months.

Some children automatically qualify, while others may need to apply. Please see the file linked below for eligibility information.

📚 Learning at Home Tip

Turn everyday moments into learning opportunities! Ask your child to share one thing they learned each day. It could be from reading, math, or even a conversation at school.

Simple questions like “What surprised you today?” or “What was challenging?” help build thinking, confidence, and communication skills. 💬✨

Testing

Beginning this school year, students who score Not Proficient on any or all of the End-of-Grade (EOG) Reading assessments will automatically be scheduled for a retest opportunity. This “second chance” is designed to give students another opportunity to demonstrate their learning and show growth after reflecting on their initial performance.

We believe this retesting opportunity provides a valuable second look, which allows students to build confidence, reinforce their understanding, and more accurately showcase what they know and can do.

If you prefer for your child not to participate in this retesting opportunity, please use the following link: Testing Letters to opt out. Paper copies are also located in the main office for your convenience. This opt-out letter is due April 10th to their homeroom teachers.
